If you have had your boiler for close to (or longer than) ten years, you may have already noticed signs of wear and tear. If you haven't noticed anything or are struggling to work out what you're looking for, this post should give you a helping hand...
Regular boiler breakdowns and repairs
If your boiler has broken down more times than you can remember, you'll be better off spending your money on a new, reliable boiler replacement. Granted, installing a new boiler might be costly, but the bills from regular repairs and call-outs can soon build up too.
Noisy boilers
Whilst you may have gotten used to your boiler rattling, gurgling or banging, there is nothing normal about these sounds! Noises like these are clear indications of internal problems within your boiler and they can lead to major damage over time if left untreated.
Strange smells created by your boiler
If your boiler is running correctly, it should produce no scent at all. If your boiler begins to smell like eggs, this is a sign of a carbon monoxide leak and you should get everyone out of the house straight away and contact an emergency gas engineer to sort out the poisonous gas leak. Other smells like metallic, burning fabric or burning electrics indicate other problems too and should be sorted out ASAP.
Your boiler is leaking
If your boiler is leaking it can cause damage to your home, as well as more damage to your boiler. Water damage can be expensive to fix and can leave you with another pricey bill- as well as the costs of a new boiler, so it is key you get it checked out as soon as possible. If you notice any puddles, wet pipes or dampness around your boiler then this is a sign that there is a leak coming from somewhere.
Your boiler just doesn’t work the way it used to
Over time, you have probably gotten used to an inefficient
boiler that takes an age to heat up your water or radiators. If your hot water
runs out constantly, your home never gets warm enough, or your heating just
takes forever to kick in, it may be time to treat yourself to a new boiler.
